Im new to mountain biking and need a little help please?

Ive been out looking for a while now for a new mountain bike. Im very new to the sport and im not really sure what to look into. I would use the mountain bike mainly to take up to Utah every once in a while, go ride some trails in the near area or just get around and go horse around with some dirt jumps and stairs with a few friends. For the most part it would be used on the trails around Las Vegas and “freestyle” i guess you could call it. Ive been looking into the Scott yz1, 2, 3, and 35 but im not really sure. I have about 500 to spend and want to get the best bang for my buck. I will also be taking this bike to college with my next year so i will definately have upgraded it and it will be put to some good use up in Reno.

I have a Raleigh Mojave 8.0 that I spent 700 on, so it’s a little more than you wanted to spend. I beat the crap out of it, plus I am weigh over 250. I bought it in February and have put over 1000 miles on it without any problems. It has great components and features for the price.

There is also a Mojave 5.0 that is closer to 500 and looks like a solid bike as well.
