This is the final part of my series on places to picnic in Charlotte. In the first two articles we visited Pakros Reedy Creek in the East Park and Freedom Park in Central Park Location. If you happen to live south of the city, I suggest that you check out Colonel Beatty Park and William R. Davie Park in South Park, Mecklenburg County Region.

Coloney Beatty Park is located about 20 miles south of Charlotte in Matthews, North Carolina. This park of 265 hectares has all the facilities you want from a family picnic park. If you are having a great event that you want to think about booking the Hall Punta del Lago. This climate controlled lodge can accommodate groups of up to 120 people. It has kitchen facilities, restrooms, water and electricity. It would be a great place for a business meeting or a meeting family. The park also has two picnic pavilions outdoor tables and plenty of singles.

Colonel Beatty Park has plenty of facilities for the lover of sports. There are basketball courts and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, softball fields and five soccer fields very well lit. There is also a lake of 10 acres that is great for canoeing and kayaking. In fact, there is an area of canoes and kayaks.

If you are a beginner or an intermediate mountain biker, you will enjoy of the 5.75-mile track Colonel Beatty Park. The green ribbon is a very easy ride but the way black diamond is considerably more difficult. No elevation change much, but there are lots of roots and tight turns and therefore will be challenged. The trails are maintained by the cycling club and Tarheel Trailblazers are improving all time.

The 107 acres William R. Davie Park is about 25 minutes south of Charlotte and 15 minutes of Colonel Beatty Park. The reason I decided to write about this park is because it is home to the dog park Davie. If you have a dog and want to let it go free, this park is for you. The park covers five acres and is divided into two separately fenced areas, one for pound large (over 20) for dogs and other small dogs. You are allowed to let his dog off leash dog park in Davie. It should be, you are required to clean up after your dog.

William R. Davie park also has many of the facilities you would expect at a family picnic park. There are indoor and outdoor picnic facilities, baseball fields, soccer fields, swimming pools and a fleet of horseshoe or volleyball. There are also hiking trails and a small lake. Finally, there is a playground equipped for their children to enjoy while you relax.
