Is there any way to keep my bike from getting stolen in NYC?

I have a U-lock that came with a cable that loops through the wheels and another cable lock that is just for back up but I’m still nervous.

I live in NYC and here is my $0.02..

Leave your good bike at home, and buy a cheapie $80 Walmart beater bike for running errands. Bike thieves in NYC usually don’t bother swiping things off cheap Walmart bikes, so you can just lock it up with a U-lock without fear of someone taking the wheels or the seatpost.

Use your good bike for weekend rides and such, when you know you won’t need to lock it up and leave it unattended for a length of time.
