How many gears do I need on my bike in Manhattan/NYC?
Hello everyone,
I live in Manhattan /NYC and I am considering to buy a bike. I just want to use it in Manhattan and maybe to go to Central Park and ride there. So I want it for the purposes of wandering around any maybe loosing some weight. The thing is that I don’t know how many gears would suit my needs. As I am a newcomer, I don’t have much idea about the roads in Manhattan. Though I might say that I live in upper east side and it seems OK here (not much hills).

You really don’t need a multi gear bicycle in NYC. Go to a local bike shop and get yourself a fixie, a single gear bike. They are very popular now. Central Park has a few shallow hills but nothing you can’t handle with a fixie.
