Does anyone know any safe routes for cyclists?

My dad loves bicycling. On 7 August 2009 My dad was in an accident while on his bicycle. He is recovering from the accident and is ready to bike again. However, riding a bicycle where traffic and people. So if anyone knows where safety bicycle routes near Los Angeles I would appreciate it.
