Biking Time Per Mile
GMAT: two cyclists meeting time?
Aaggh. One of a number of final questions that are causing me undue stress:
Two cyclists start biking from a trail’s start 3 hours apart. The second cyclist travels at 10 miles per hour and starts 3 hours after the first cyclist who is traveling at 6 miles per hour. How much time will pass before the second cyclist catches up with the first from the time the second cyclist started biking?
I know this is schoolboy stuff and have worked out the answer to be 4.5 hours, which I think is roughly right but I’m sure there’s a simpler way to do it than my hamfisted approach. To be quite frank I wish the two cyclists would crash and burn but while they’re on their bikes I might as well find out when they’d meet.

the first cyclist has cycled 18 miles in 3 hours
since the second cyclist travel 4miles an hour faster than the first cyclist, every hour he will catch up 4 miles,
therefore it will take him 18/4=4.5 hours to catch up
