How much would it cost to stay in hostels across Italy for 3 weeks?

I’d like to do a self-directed bike tour of Italy, staying in hostels along the way. Could someone please offer a ballpark figure for cost of accomodation, groceries, plus a recommended budget for sightseeing? Please use Italian Lira as a currency.
