A fixed Gear/track Bike Question.?
Here is hoping the person that responds knows what im talking about! I have a fixed gear that I have been riding for many years. I moved to Maui Hawaii from Seattle. I live on the side of a Volcano that has some serious hills. Hills that can last for three or four miles. In Seattle I rode a 42/16 cog assembly, and am looking for some advice on a cog set up that might work for me here. Picture a lot of up and downhill stuff. Maybee similar to San Francisco. Except these hills just keep going and going. I want to compromise a bit of speed on a larger cog set up, but also dont want to be happily cruising up a hill with ease either.
Thanks and cheers!
I outfitted a guy for the Stelvio’s – Back when Compact Cranks first hit the market.
He went to France with two wheelsets and on them he had a 11~23 and a 12~27. When he got to the Stelvio’s he used everybit of the 27 tooth in the back while working the 34 tooth up front.
From this point, it’s easy to see just how much gear you’ll need. I would try to get it done with a 39×18 I think that would be an easy gear combo to get ahold of and still have some speed on the road… but, not a whole lot of it.
