"I can survive on public transportation in San Diego?
I would like to move to San Diego in the next year, but it is very difficult to a car there (I live in NYC, bring your car there, insurance, etc.). Could he survive in public transportation throughout San Diego? I'm not talking Downtown about it, but throughout the North Central Area-Pac Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla, Poway, etc. I also realize that public transportation is not like here in New York "I know. I heard biking is larger in SD too, but not exactly think I'll bike to work every day (perhaps without hurry though). Any comment is appreciated. Thanks!
Generally no, but depending on where you live is feasible and not bad at all. I live on the beach Pacific and do not really need a car there to go to the grocery store, restaurants, or bars. Many people walk and / or by bicycle, more particularly cruises beach. If you live in PB to try to live west of San Lamont, is closer to everything. PB is a very small, the community can walk and is very easy to get by w / car oa for everyday things like food, dry cleaners, liquor, etc. .. I had a car for six months while living in PB and really was not that bad. I worked downtown and is not a direct bus to the center so it was easy to get to work. But then I got a new job in Carlsbad and needed a car to get to it. If you work or transit through the heart of Mission Valley is a decent choice public. Mission Beach is even more dense and can walk, you do not need a car in Mission Beach, is very narrow and long, and there are plenty of small markets, cafés and shops there that are easy to walk. Only one bus route through Mission Beach, but that takes you to the car and using PB as well. Public transport in La Jolla UCSD is good at everything, but not in the center of La Jolla and Bird Rock / Windandsea area. The area around the University Town Center UCSD and has lots of apartments, condominiums, shopping centers, and public transit. Everythin is pretty close, and you should be able to walk or bike to what you need. But it is more boring up there and not as PB or MB. I lived there for two years w / oa car in college and was not so bad. But he had lived with roomates car. North County, including Poway has no public transport good. With the exception of Escondido and surrounding areas to the stations is not very good coaster. You will need a car to travel in North County, which is north of La Jolla. Poway Transit has been very poor and it is quite far from there, so I would not recommend working or living in North County unless you have a car. I work in North County in Carlsbad and drive 30 miles to here every day. Not having a car can do in certain areas. Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla / UTC area, Mission Valley, North Park, Hillcrest, University Heights, and downtown are areas where you can live w / or car. The areas south of Highway 8 in National City, Chula Vista, and south of San Diego have public transport, but is more ghetto and closer to Mexico, literally and culturally. How in these COMMUNITIES Aorund is fairly easy w / AO car. The only problem is when you need to get out of communities, cart of the mountain and not go anywhere so if you need to go a distance longer will be more difficult. In general you want a car in southern California, but if you live in the right place is not too difficult to live w / o one. I'm not sure where you are going to work, but try a place that has good traffic as downtown or Mission Valley. If you are www.SDCommute.com you can find all the public transport information SD. It is a trip planner that lets you enter there two directions and tell you how to get no step using. If you have further questions do not hesitate to ask b / c I know public transportation in San Diego very well. My company does consulting work for the agency here and transport that actually what I'm working now, and I worked directly for SANDAG, the regional agency for transportation planning.
