Can you recommend a good mountain bike?

I'm looking for something to mount flat mountain trails and paths. So I need a good suspension, but do not need all gadgets drops 20 feet or so. I ride mostly flat trails and some resistance training mountain trails – maybe with 4-5 foot drops to the fullest! I'm not looking for a bike down, but something that can handle rough terrain and also has a strong team set up to allow me long flat trail rides! Thanks! ps. I can spend under $ 1000. Thanks!
