Why are some people in Scotland opposed to freedom?

We are currently englands sidekick and if there was one country I do not want to be involved with it is England. Hated wherever they go yet the scottish are loved. Surely the time has come to become a nation again. I love being scottish and i am proud to be scottish but i am not proud of Scotlands current state. We have nucleur waste dumped in our backyard and this is decided by English politicians. our parliament is embarrasing, our ‘leader’ mr mconnell is not an impressive man. Gordon brown bangs on about great britain for shared values. We can have shared values but as neighbouring countries. He is just scared that he cannot be prime minister of Britain if it no longer exists as a position. And if us scots vote snp then freedom shall be ours. but will we as a nation choose freedom or will we keep the stabilisers on our bike? it saddens me that i presume it shall be the latter.

There is nothing “unfree” about Scotland at the moment. Independence and Freedom are not the same thing. Do you even understand the Treaty of Union of 1707? Scotland is an equal partner and actually punches about its weight (in terms of population) in UK wide politics. Have you forgotten that Gordon Brown and Tony Blair (though he is an anglicised a*se) are both Scots? True Home Rule (as opposed to the current devolution) would be a good step, but Scotland would not necessarily be better off as an independent country. Much of the oil wealth is under binding contracts, that would not necessarily revert to the control of the Scottish government in an independent Scotland and that resource is finite. What happens when it runs out? And it will. Many of the people who oppose independence are concerned about the economic consequences of rash actions. They certainly don’t oppose “freedom” as you put it.
