How to live a life of travel and adventure?

I’m single 19 with about $2000 in the bank. I’m suppose to be going to college like all of my other friends but i have no desire to ever pick up another boring text book. All i want to do is travel around and see the country, and i love surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, i love all outdoor sports. So how do i go about living this life style and supporting it? Tell me your stories if you live like this? Please, thanks

Unfortunately without some extraordinary skill in those activities they will not support you. Nor will $2000 get you very far. A good mountain bike runs $600-$2000, and rock climbing gear is also very expensive. You will need an income to support the lifestyle. Pick one or two sports you are really into and try getting a job in a related field. If you’re into surfing, train for a lifeguard position. If you’re into snowboarding, work at a ski resort. Backpacking or rock climbing… you could work at a state or national park… perhaps eventually becoming a ranger (although this usually requires some college).

In reality, most people who are into any of the listed activities usually have regular jobs and are “weekend warriors”. College is nice because they actually offer classes in subjects like backpacking, mountaineering, etc… and you can meet other people into the same things. Believe me, it’s nothing like high school when it comes to the actual school work. I took most of my outdoor trips while in college.
