The 2009 race Leadville 100 in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, saw an impressive battle between Lance Armstrong and Dave Wiens. These two legends of cycling have enjoyed a friendly competition for previous years. In 2008 Wiens beat Armstrong in the same race and set a new record of 6:45:00, but would not repeat this in 2009.

Armstrong fortune is reversed this year won a stunning difference, twenty-five minutes total, and record-breaking Wiens' by more than ten minutes. All this and Lance crossed the line with a flat rear tire. At one point it seemed that Armstrong would be unable to continue as a swarm of fans and supporters lined the track and prevented its route.

The Leadville 100 is near the heart of the two pilots for different reasons. It was shortly after of the 2008 campaign that Armstrong announced his return to professional cycling. Since then, defied his critics with performances of success in the Tour of California Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. Training for the race Armstrong seems to have inspired a new passion for mountain biking, with plans to enter some other major competitions in the next two years, and stuck to the road bike. For Wiens, the race remains one of her favorites, despite who retired from professional mountain bike race twenty years in 2004. During his career, Wiens was a U.S. national champion, world champion and now has a place in the Hall of Fame Mountain Bike.

Riding in the Leadville 100 is a matter physically shattered, and the riders are given twelve hours to complete the course in order to obtain a recorded time. The course stretches along the Rocky Mountains, the tissue around the trees, roots and, of course, rocks.

If you like the sound of this difficult sport that is easy to get involved with mountain biking. All you need is a mountain bike and access to fair rough terrain. For beginners and amateurs is a good idea to join a cycling club as you can find good locations, along with high society and fellow mountain bikers.
