Mountain biking help?

I have been riding bikes for a while, but i just started to get into actual mountain biking. I need some ideas before i go to the shops on what type of bike i need. First of all i only have a $600-700(USD) budget. I want a bike that can do some freeride jumps(nothing major, im only 14) but can also hit up the regular trails. I was hoping to get a dual suspension. hopefully i can raise my budget by throwing in some of my money, because this will be a X-mas present but that wont raise it much. thanks to all who answered. also i dont want to go into used bikes, but lastyears modles are ok.

For the riding you are planning on doing and your price range get a hard-tail. In this price range you can get a very good hard-tail, any full susp. bike in this range will be somewhat of a disappointment.
