Where to move to near Austin, TX?

My Husband and I are planning to move to the Austin area late this year or early next year. We are moving from Northern Illinois, Woodstock (Groundhog Day) to be exact. We are wondering where the good communities are, good schools, and etc. We don’t mind driving up to 20mi to jobs so any surrounding ares and towns are good to. We are trying to put down roots in a nice community where we can do the things we love such as skeet shooting, horseback riding, mountain biking, four wheeling and other outdoor activities. Can you name some good communities to live in and maybe jobs?? We are planning a trip to Texas in June to visit the towns. Thank you for all of your help.

I’ve lived in Cedar Park for the past 10 years. We’re northwest of the city-right on the edge of city limits. It’s an great community for families! Couldn’t be any better. Cedar Park really holds on to that small town feel while still not being far from anything. Mall, theaters, the usual. It’s within Leander ISD- one of the most excellent in all of Texas. The lake is 5-15 min drive depending on where you’re going. Downtown is about 20-25 minutes away. The Toll Road opened about a year ago which eased traffic tremendously on 183.

Also, it’s not a bad time to buy here in Austin. Prices really got out of hand here in Northwest Austin but they’ve dropped pretty dramatically since this economic shpeal we’re in. But I can’t speak for what it’ll be like in June.

Craigslist may offer some insight on available jobs in the city, but someone is always laying off while some one is always hiring in Austin. A lot of tech companies are here. Dell, Apple, AMD, AT&T, etc…
