We are biking around Europe before going to Africa. Cheap ideas on how to ship bikes from Rome to NC in USA?

Certainly, we could keep our bikes, but we will be flying to Tanzania and hiking Mt. Kili, then flying home to North Carolina in the USA. It seems like a waste of money to pay to bring our bikes to Tanzania with us when we won’t be using them, plus we will have to figure out something to do them while we are on the mountain. I’d love any suggestions for ways to get those bicycles home-especially ideas which cost less than $300-what UPS charges.

Italy is notoriously expensive for shipping even within Europe. The cheapest place to ship stuff from is Germany. Try a few italian shipping companies or US ones that ship specifically to Italy, they might be able to point you in the right direction.
