How do you prevent your bike stolen?

I have a mountain bike and trekking in the cycle of school and work occasionally. I often faced with some problems with parking in places designated as abstract installation, care and so neglected. There are some concerns on the right tools to use to prevent theft. Does anyone have any suggestions?
