Mountain bikes are designed for off-road. Whether made for racing or the slower rider, there are four basic frame designs for mountain bikes: rigid, hard-tail, soft-tail and full suspension.

The solid (also commonly known as completely rigid) Mountain bikes are like a kind of conventional bike as you imagine. A rigid mountain bike has no rear suspension or front suspension. These used to be the most common type of mountain bike, but quickly being replaced by more comfortable models that have some type suspension system. Fully rigid bikes tend to be cheaper than models with a suspension. Many bicycle riders prefer rigid because is what they're used, and the feeling that the rigid design allows for greater control.

Finally, there is full suspension mountain bike. Bicycles with this design feature both front and rear suspension. These bikes are the latest design of mountain bikes. For a long time pilots avoid full suspension bikes, as they were heavy and tended to fall into the medium as an old horse hyperextension. It took years for engineers and pilots to perfect a viable, functional full-suspension bike full mountain. This was in the 1990s when these bikes finally reached a point which negotiable.
