Tips for a beginner mountain biker?

I bought a mountain full suspension bike three months, been using on the roads and trails near San Francisco, and fun. I want to be more aggressive, and I'm planning to go to Northstar at Lake Tahoe next month. I snowboard the mountain during the winter, but do not know what to expect from the summer. What should I bring? Any advice?

Keep extra water bottles, a patch kit for tubes or an extra tube and tire levers. Take along a CO2 cartridge or mini-pump. I prefer the route of CO2. Riding Alone? Bring a cell phone!
