Is it normal to have cold feet right before moving cross country (Michigan, Oregon)? We are going crazy!
My boyfriend (33) and I (28) are moving to Portland, OR for the area outside Detroit. Although we are very excited about leaving behind cold winters and a depressing, ugly southeastern Michigan, We are going crazy a little about the movement. His work is basically a lateral move, so the biggest gain is the weather (as we know it rains a lot, but not We care a lot about that.) We like it will be softer and the temperatures are very active and enjoy the outdoors (biking, running, hiking, water skiing, etc.). Is it normal to decide you're almost not going to do something like this in 11 hours? We had a party Sat night, and with all our friends in one place at one time was overwhelming, and we could be part of it. I love to hear your experiences with this, and / or if you just have an opinion about it. Thank you!
Yes, that's normal. 9 months ago, my husband and I (who were not married or engaged at the time) moved from Virginia to Alabama. Both were born and raised in Virginia so it was a great move for both. It was exciting and frightening. I am very close to my family so it was very difficult and yes, overwhelming to say goodbye. I think That was the hardest part. When we were actually on the road, it actually got easier. Then when we got here, so there was plenty to do …. unpack, shares the house with food, had to find a new job. And we are so busy that made the transition easier. Then begin to make new friends and it also made it easier. Just remember you have each other and both are experiencing and feeling the same things. Will make their relationship stronger. Four months later we moved here, we are involved ….. four months after that, we got married. I still miss my family, my friends and my house (VA is a beautiful state and LA is ugly), but not dwell on it because I have my husband and that makes me happy. Good luck!
