Entry level road bikes? I've seen some of the questions, but I wanted to ask …?

I am interested in a basic entry-level bike Road (a touring bike, I suppose? I, at least, racks and possibly saddlebags below). I drive 35 miles almost daily, and most want to travel, but to travel long weekend. I have read other questions regarding the interests of similar bikes. I just want to ask if the People have strong views on the lower end bikes like Trek 1000, Giant OCR, including Dawes bikes I've seen in bikesdirect.com. If I were to get one of these, are there major reasons why you might choose one over the other? I definitely want something that is expected to create defenses and racks, travel in Seattle. I walk in the rain and now bad enough to get wet in the rain, but I hope to change that …

I strongly recommend either the Surly crossCheck, or Surly Long Haul Trucker. Both are built of chrome steel FOM 4130 (which is mounted far better than aluminum). Cross-checking is … well, you guessed it, a bike cyclocross. However, people are for commuting, touring, 'Cross Racing singlespeeding, fixed gear, almost anything really. Are authorized for 45's, semi-horizontal drop (so you can run singlespeed or fixed), and spacing 132.5mm (to use a road or MTN center!). Verification Cross also has a lot of welding accessories for fenders and racks. The long-distance truck driver is not as versatile, but is configured to load tour or commuting. Sheaths longer, lower BB, and more welding accessories. You can buy one for about $ 900. That's a super deal for what you are receiving. Special I just ordered a 58cm crossCheck through my local bike shop, and all spec'd with MTN. components (AVID, salsa, XT wheels, Derailleur XT, LX Hollowtech II) and some road stuff (Dura Ace by exchangers tubes, bars cyclocross sauce, Levers Aero). Tomorrow is supposed to be ready, and I can not wait! I live in AZ, so rust is not an issue as important as what is there. Protector de Marco, and lubrication should be liberal enough to support a structure steel live in a wet Seattle weather so crazy, but I know for sure.
