Road Biking Vancouver

Biking from Ottawa to Vancouver Island in October?

I have been thinking about biking from Ontario to Vancouver at the end of September 2008, camping along the way.

Someone mentioned to me that I should stay off the Trans-Canada as much as possible; just citing traffic.

What route is best for going East – West?

I can see some roads that run parallel in the prairies and I was planning on taking the Crows Nest Pass through B.C.

Any information, input or resources would be appreciated.

End of September? Prepare for snow and cold, and then when you get to Vancouver, lots of rain. It *might* be nice.. but it might be cold as.. well.. you know.

Are you thinking of riding a bicycle or a motorbike? A bicycle will take much longer than a motorbike (obviously), and considering how much distance you plan on covering, well, you may want to reconsider your start date.

Something to consider – especially as you get into the mountains in Alberta and BC – a lot of the campgrounds will be closed for the season.

It’s a very ambitious plan, and I’m sure that when you do it, you’ll have an amazing trip with lots of memories.. but please consider the distance and the seasonal weather!
